I would love to see these, but I thought extinct meant they no longer existed so how could they come back?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cg731m4v459o

They are sometimes declared extinct in a certain area - such as Scotland

then a couple wander off course and find it again

so - basically "extinct " can be applied to an area rather than overall

which is confusing

Good morning from a sunny Dorset. Two trips to the tip yesterday in a friends car. There's a great system with everything well labelled and a few people there to point you in the right direction or give a hand if necessary. Finally cleared out all the old paint tins from the shed, ( special container ) and got rid of loads including an old toilet and cistern ( another dedicated skip ). They usually charge a nominal fee for old sanitary ware but the bloke said " nah, you're good mate " as he could see it was just a one off domestic item.
Granddaughter is going to the local sports centre swimming activity for kids that runs over the Easter period. Really well organised into groups of kids who have never been in a swimming pool ( 4 ) and a slightly more advanced group ( 4 again ), and as there are two instructors for each group the kids get almost individual attention. This seems to be working as yesterday she told me she jumped in twice, and managed to swim a width. 😎. Today's breakfast request was for a cheese sandwich with the crusts cut off, this was rejected half way through eating as apparently grandpa had cut the cheese too thick🤔 I had a half hour Mandarin lesson as payment for breakfast ( her mum is Chinese and granddaughter is bilingual and has Chinese lessons ) and this afternoon we're going to visit a friend to feed and clean the tortoises 🐢

Been out for a walk in the beautiful sunshine.
Dug out my Garmin edge and charged it up. I dont think its working properly as I'm sure I've done at least 8 miles but it tells me I've only done 1.23 miles  . Furthest I've done without my stroller so im please, knackered but pleased.

Lovely day and glorious weather

JUST managed to miss the Dinky Cafe Boat - they were just heading back to their marina as I got to their spot for today!

and - major annoyance - a bloke on a Haibike flagged me down approaching Widnes and asked if I had a pump
Of course I have a pump - been caught out that way before

turns out he had a puncture in his back tyre
BUT it has a Presta valve on it
and - unknown to me until now - this pump only fits Schrader
Damn!

So - raised the poor guy's hopes for nothing

but did try anyway

must look for a converter to carry around in case that happens again!

Oh - and I looked and his tyres are different to mine - do giving him my spare wouldn;t have worked either!

Well done - fair walk that

can you download the GPS data - if you can you might be able to see where it went wrong

or next time you could just use your phone - assuming you have a "smart"phone
the free version of STrava works fine for walks

I used to download my rides And enjoyed looking at them. My 30-40 milers were into Cheshire and on the hybrid I would "see" a side lane and explore it for miles so yes, it was good to see where I had been.

They must have meant extinct in the uk as they are still widespread in Europe . We were surprised to see them when we went to Silmbridge on the Bristol Channel a couple of weeks ago. Apparently they have been running a reintroduction programme there for a number years .
They looked magnificent feeding on the marsh’s . 😀

Good morning all.
Different to Mo i slept very heavy last night, too heavy really as I am quite groggy.
Weather is iffy today. BBC says showers all day while google says dry all morning which be good but how can you plan a walk without knowing for sure.
Have a good day all.
