Yet the birth rate for indigenous Brits has fallen so it can’t be them that’s causing the shortage.
Several causes Mo. +/- 30% population growth since the 60s; massive council house sell off and not replaced; demographic changes; insufficient building for decades, huge growth in an uncontrolled buy to let market.

There's no single cause.

Anyway. Bright, very windy and cool out of the sun. It's going to be chilly at Ewood, which is where we're going in 15 minutes. I could easily doze off in my chair.

An exciting shopping trip this morning socks, underpants and clothes pegs. Rock 'n' roll.

Good news from this morning's parkrun. The chap who, earlier in the year, had a heart attack and collapsed as he approached the finish line has made a complete recovery. CPR was started and the portable defib brought into use. After the event there was an appeal among the local parkrun community for contributions towards a second defibrillator so we now have two, one at the finish, the other at the furthest point. This was all announced by the Town Crier, complete with bell, Tricorn hat and much " Oyeh, Oyeh, Ohyeh ". Perhaps inspired by this I walked the course 30 seconds faster this week 🤔

No. Each local authority has a central government imposed targets for house building. The numbers to be built are mandatory. It's a big discussion point round here.

I know - but our lot seem to have been very keen on house building from before that

The new targets and ability to get rid of a lot of complaints have just released a lot of what they wanted to do but have been unable to

And the downsize is that there is less and less countryside left. All towns and villages are getting closer and closer together. Very sad.
When I look at all black and white photographs and see how much of the countryside is now covered with houses, I sigh and feel bad . Animals are losing their natural habitats because humans have decided they need their space.
This is a small country by today's standards and we are destroying it.

Too true. When i moved to Warrington it was a lovely town of 70,000+ that my mates had never heard of. Population is now 2220,000..... it more or less meets Manchester to the east and Liverpool to the east.

My 3 grandchildren refuse to bring children into this scary world and I know of other 'young' ones that feel the same.
