Ok thanks. Just need to get fit now
You really don't need to be very fit. Last time I did it I hadn't ridden for three months. It's about 63 miles and you can take it at whatever pace you like. Unless you want to be the macho man getting to the top of Ditchling Beacon without getting off its very relaxed. Plenty of stops and pubs along the way. Great fun day out.

Looks like a really nice bike there, I like it! Fit some big fat knobby tyres and I bet it'd be great fun at a trail centre, fit some higher pressure slicks and it'll be great for faster road riding too.

Now I feel like I have too many over-specialised bikes!

I hadn't even heard of the london2Brighton until somebody at work said I should join them this year. Sounds like a good laugh and if I can raise some money in the meantime then why not.

I mainly meant I need to get fitted in general. I have let my fitness slide.

I think it's interesting (reading Giant's bumph on this bike) to hear that they class it as more "road focussed", with off road capability. Looking at it, I think it appears to be way more suited to off road. Maybe it's just some of the pics I've seen with the tractor tyres fitted, but it looks way more MTB than anything. Even a "traditional" hybrid looks less like an MTB than a Toughroad.

It doesn't detract from the fact it's nice by the way, and it does sound ideal for your riding style. It's just messing up my understanding of bike niches.... An old dog may have to learn a new trick here.

I would say my hybrid definitely has MTB DNA but is certainly no slouch on the smooth stuff. As I have already said, it has fat tyres but is a good choice for rides of 100+ miles. Can hold it's own on sportives or steps!
