My nautical school trip was C1966 ish from Liverpool to Norway, Sweden and Denmark via the Scottish Isles, and back to dock in Tilbury. The ship was a single funnelled old thing called either Caledonia or Caledonian buI can't find any info on it. Maybe someone here could dig some out?
I will see what I can dig up on a forum which I sometimes look at .... Ships Nostalgia.

My mother in law was at Ramsgate when the "Little Ships" came back from Ramsgate

She fondly remembers one in particular the "New Brittanic", she was a local sightseeing vessel that made multiple trips and has been credited with saving some 3,000 lives. It is also though that the Skipper's son was the youngest to take part

We were lucky enough to get her down to visit the vessel at Ramsgate harbour for the "Little Ships anniversary

Within days of joining up, I was at sea -

We used to have a Miniature Chest X-ray unit and generator vehicle, that crossed on the ferry every Tuesday morning. We were based at HMS Drake and had to go across to x-ray the new entry at HMS Raleigh

There was nothing of me when I joined. An x-ray machine for examining miniature chests sounds perfect.

Do let us know how it goes - I've always fancied one of those trips.

I am in two minds.... a lot of the shore stops are only to load and off load, and can be at weird times. You have to accept this when you plan.
I get 6 hours in Trondheim so I can see the Cathedral at Nidaros and will also get to see North Cape.

Apart from that it will be simply chilling and taking photos of the Fjords and (hopefully) Northern Lights... it looks promising

The reason I am going this year is that they have axed the prohibitively expensive single supplement and the Northern Lights "Guarrantee" in that if you do not see on the round trip, you get a free 6 day trip!

Also managed to get return Business Class flights to Bergen with my "Airmiles" for £50

My brother worked on trawlers out of Hull for many years, as did many of our friends. It was a regular occurance that someone didnt come back for some reason. He always sailed with a friend from across the road and they signed on with the Gaul but the friend got sick at the last moment and they both decided not to make the trip. The Gaul sailed and went down, all hands were lost.

When I left school I had a choice of trawlers, navy or the army. I chose the army and had a great 12 years.
