They have a tall ships week on the Thames each year. At times, they give a tantalising glimpse of what the river must have looked like before the age of steam.
I had a cruise on the Uganda in 1977 or 1978 (can't remember the exact date). Started at Malta (where I was living at the time), Alexandria, Mersin (in Turkey), Rhodes and Pireaus. Great time!In 1981 I went on the schools ship SS Uganda round the Baltic Sea, in 1982 it was converted to a hospital ship for the Falklands War - in her pomp:
