Last week on Thursday we picked up our MK3 Octavia. Today we set off cross country and less than 10 minutes we had to turn back due to juddering noise and switch to the little car we very nearly sold last weekend.

We had it just over one week and most of that it hasn't been used. Wednesday it did a 90 minutes round trip without any issues.

We have had bad luck on our last three vehicles except for the little car. A Peugeot turns out more reliable than a Skoda and a SEAT! Who'd have thought a VW group car is less reliable than a French car?!!

68,000 miles. It disappeared for a few weeks but today it was back. A high pitched vibrating noise that caused some passengers a bit of pain or discomfort.

Googling it for the 1.6tdi there's failing dual mass flywheel, steering angle sensor or fuel line on the passengers side being loose. The latter is typical at about 1700-2200rpm which is not too far off the 35-40mph when it starts.

Anyone know how to track down those things that are intermittent and not heard when the garage checks it out?

We are on holiday in the Algarve and been given a Scala as a rental car, pretty sure it’s a 1.0 3 cylinder, but very impressed with it, ride and comfort are excellent and it’s just a nice size car.

I always get nosy when I see things like this..
1.9 diesel, 160k miles, chequered MOT history, off the road for a couple years about 5 years ago, then failed MOT for a broken rear axle then a couple of advisories since.

I took the old girl off the road because I was cycling more. Decided to resurrect the old thing only to be shocked at the near death catastrophe regarding the great axle. Apparently it’s a common issue on the Golf 4 platform
She is running beautifully now but is now needing a new turbo soon 😩 Thankfully it gives me the opportunity to slightly upgrade that bit to something off the Fabia RS 😉
