I have been the owner of one for just over a fortnight now - a 2024 Skoda Enyaq. Liking it a lot so far, but it is the newest car I've ever owned.

As previously threatened, I have finally joined the VAG family having taken possession of a 2017 Skoda Superb Combi. It's a 2 litre diesel with 7-speed DSG autobox and 135,000 miles on the clock. So far I am very pleased with the car but can't make head nor tail of how to change/preset radio stations. Wireless Apple CarPlay works flawlessly with the BT dongle that I had in the Mercedes so that's a welcome bonus 👌

Aside from the usual age related marks it is in remarkable good condition. I managed to get the seller to replace the cam belt/water pump and service the gearbox before I bought it and we shared the cost of that. I fitted my dash cam yesterday and this morning National Tyres (aka Halfords) turned up and fitted four new tyres (I rarely trust tyres on a used car). It's now ready for its first trek to North Wales on Monday fully loaded with four adults, a 90kg mobility scooter in the boot and luggage on the roof. Happy days 😊👍

So, the past couple of days have been spent getting to grips with the car's various display modes, infotainment system and general driving techniques. I was a little bit concerned about how the car would feel with 27 less horses under the bonnet and 60Nm less torques, compared to the E-class, but gotta say I'm mildly impressed so far. It's definitely not a slouch but it does require more right foot to get the best out of it. The auto-gearbox is far more ready to kick down than the Merc but maybe the extra torques meant it didn't need to kick down to accelerate.

Again comparing the E220 and Superb Combi, the VAG infotainment system is truly (and dare I say unnecessarily) complicated but I think I got everything sorted the way I want it. A couple of questions:

• Does anyone know if the radio is DAB or DAB+?
• How do I find out if there are any software updates available?

Tomorrow's job will be giving the interior a deep clean to get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke that I can't smell but everyone else can. I'm not a smoker (or even an ex-smoker) I just have no sense of smell. I am nose blind

My 2021 Fabia III has got 70kW and weighs around 1150kg. Prior to the Fabia we had a 2009 Roomster with weighs 1260kg and 77kW. I can't tell a difference.

'+' only came into being in around 2023
If you find an upgrade I'd like it too

Perhaps the Superb is a bit lighter than the E-class.
My 2021 Fabia III has got 70kW and weighs around 1150kg. Prior to the Fabia we had a 2009 Roomster with weighs 1260kg and 77kW. I can't tell a difference.

You make a good point The Merc's kerb weight is 1845kg vs 1577kg for the Superb - kinda explains it

DAB+ was first introduced in 2006. The Merc has it but I have a feeling it needed a software update when I had Apple CarPlay enabled ... I might be wrong about that 🤔

I will ask around some of my coding acquaintances and see what's out there and let you know if I get a hit

This afternoon was spent cleaning the inside of the car with the aim of getting rid of the cigarette smell. Having hoovered every nook and cranny I used a bottle of Autoglym interior shampoo and that is currently drying out. Tomorrow I'll use Autoglym odour eliminator and fast glass before asking 'er indoors to give it the sniff test Hopefully it'll get a thumbs up otherwise I'll have to put up with her moaning all next week whilst we're on holiday

My first long distance trip in the Superb - Bristol to Caernarfon on Monday just gone. 248 miles in at an average speed of 48mph with an average fuel consumption of 51mpg and a reported 410 miles left in the tank. Pretty impressive considering the load in the car - 4 adults, a 90kg mobility scooter plus cool box and sundry items in the boot and luggage in the roof box. Granted the rear of the car was looking a bit low but there was no sign of bottoming out on the journey so happy days 😊

Earlier today the fuel gauge hit the half-full mark after about 365 miles and the remaining range shows 350 left in the tank. It'll be interesting to see how that works out but at 350 miles done the Merc would be heading onto reserve in about another 60 miles
