.Occasionally charged to 100% which I gather you shouldn't, occasionally run down to 5 or 10%, which I gather you shouldn't...and while it was in regular use by my son, he'd invariably use Turbo mode which of course drains the battery quite quickly...overall, not careful use of it.

There’s no problem at all with occasionally doing that. I charge up my Gain to 100% before a long ride but don’t store it for long at 100.

How common is still, or was, the intermittent cut outs that were very annoying and Halfords seemed unable to solve.
Mine suffered quite badly even from new.
Halfords fitted a new screen unit , didn't make any difference.
All it was was minute movement of the battery in its cradle, I just put a strip of tape on to hold it fast, never had a problem since.

Is it still a problem on newer bikes...or even older bikes ?

Then intermittent cutting out is/was very rare on the later bikes with the full HESC+ system, c.2020 onwards. Not utterly unheard of, but genuinely very unusual.

Was quite common on the earlier machines, attributable to many different causes such as battery or screen shifting in their cradles, etc.

My Subway e bike is the 2023 model and despite taking it back due to not so much cutting out , as not starting at all in any of the 4 modes, it never got sorted . Sometimes it works ok other times i have to switch off and on again. I can just about live with that, but theres now a really annoying constant creak when putting any kind of pressure through the pedals. A trip to an LBS calls. I'm really envious of all you happy Subway owners.

I don;t have a Subway - but I did have an annoying creak on my Raleigh

the LBS looked at it several times but in the end they needed some special tools from Bosch to take the motor apart and then they could tighten everything
not happened since

took a long time because it started over lockdown and the older mechanic at the LBS was the sort that has a garage full of bike just for looking at
and loved taking them apart etc
so when some weird tool was needed he brough it in from home

but the poor bloke died from Covid over lockdown
so it was a bit difficult pushing the shop to get them

didn't do any harm anyway
but much better without the creak!!!

Thanks for the heads up. Ive searched google and you tube and they suggest anything from the pedals to the head set.its actually quite difficult pinning down a bicycle noise/creak .

yes - I know!

I was pretty certain after a lot of dodgy riding along with my head below my arms trying to listen

I eventually found a way of duplicating it and showed the bloke who runs the LBS
he fixed it after than because he knew how to test what he had done
before that I could only get it to creak at random times - normally away from home!

I could probably put up with random creaking but this is constant apart from coasting.

I can hand on heart say mine has been stellar. I've been careful how it's treated to protect the torque sensor and keep the screen unit dry, but otherwise it's cracked 10k miles with nothing but tyres and a chain. Even the brake pads are original.
