Phew, glad I discovered this thread at the last minute rather than after the fact.

Maybe the swallows were more sensible than you thought and realised how grubby the nest would become, hence the spare?!

Isn't it curious how they do things all at the same time? I would have expected one to be a little ahead or one a little behind.

I'm glad they didn't fly yesterday - it was far too windy for them! There's a chance they won't blow away today!

I stopped to watch some near me feeding over a field yesterday. I love it when they fly so low that they're around you. Some of the adults were doing food passes to the younger ones.
