I don't think this has been mentioned, but I just came across these two ...

Two riders George Agate and John Whybrow set off on June 8th on an attempt to circumnavigate the world.

Their website is here: http://thetandemmen.com/
Their tracker is here: https://www.followmychallenge.com/live/TheTandemMen/
There's a local news story about them here: http://www.kentonline.co.uk/canterbury/news/theyre-off---the-tandem-97175/

That's all I know about them. So far they have done 546 miles

I didn't know which forum to put this in, so I put it here. Happy for it to be moved, eg to one of these:
Time Trial, Long Distance and Endurance Cycling
Tandem, Unicycle and Other Bikes
Touring and Expedition

It's a bit more complicated than that...

Appears to be a Rohloff transmission - which on a tandem might need a bit of luck. And I don't envy them that enormous chainwheel.

Two pairs of legs driving it.

They're in Turkey at the moment. They've just posted on FB, and all is well but I bet they're keen to move on.

Leg 1.

2,774 miles.

So, last night we pedalled our way into Istanbul. 40 days and 9 hours after leaving the little city of Canterbury that we had called home, we had completed leg 1. We have cycled through 13 countries and 9 capital cities to get here and it has been one hell of an adventure already. To say the ride into Istanbul was terrifying would be an understatement. The roads were unbelievably busy and with construction works all the way along the coast, no cycle paths or smaller roads. We are now taking a few days of well earned rest and relaxation!

Thank you all for the support along the way, and keep the love coming! It really means a lot to us.

Rest and relaxation in Istanbul. Crikey. I think someone needs to lend them a radio!
