not really abused, but the salty air and sea water isn't kind to steel.

The above machine was working yesterday
I’d ridden along the river (Calder) bank, & through the woods, to see it lifting potatoes

Damned greasy in the woods, l was almost off a few times
It’s at that point where it’s not very muddy, just that slippery layer on top of a firm base

I remember as a youth , we had a very small machine that went on the back of tractor and lift a single row at a time, When I say lifted, it turned the soil over and hopefully deposited them on top. You then followed up on foot with a scuttle, filled it with spuds and emptied in into a sack and onto a trailer. Back breaking work! Sowing / planting them was much more fun!
