If you judge bands on the number of hit songs then you're probably correct.

I am the last one to judge an artist by the number of hits. With Scissor Sisters, they seemed to have one big hit and were suddenly headlining and doing big gigs on the back of one hit. Most artists build up a following and work up to big gigs. With them it all seemed just hype. Since the big number - nothing has really happened. They were rather hyped as being the next big thing but fell very short of that.

Jamie's in Park Street Bristol is rather good (based on only one visit admittedly)

The Petite Blanc in Cheltenham - some sort of Maison Blanc offshoot was very poor for the money however, merely poor in fact. Shame it replaced the hotel's in-house restaurant which was excellent

Jamie's in Park Street Bristol is beyond awful (based on only one visit admittedly). It qualifies for this thread as I had expected it to be underwhelming.

Sounds like we were lucky then. I'd not had high expectations it being a "celebrity chain" and all, but our meal, quite a large group, was rather good, and not particularly expensive for what it was.
Maybe it's gone downhill, or we're after different things

We saw them live, dreadful, tedious and boring
I saw them live... excellent band, hit the nail squarely on the funky camp disco head... lots of fun... although the song Mary was tedious and boring.

Just because you didn't notice their smaller gigs doesn't mean they didn't do any. The couple I went to them live with had previously seen them perform twice in much smaller venues in Leeds... then they had a big hit and the size of the venue increased.

And for the record, they've had 4 top ten UK albums, 2 top ten UK singles and 9 UK top forty 'hits'.

I once was stopped from take a photo of the sign telling visitors not to take photos from the balcony looking down onto The Baltic's Level 5 gallery [on the river front in Gateshead].
"It is forbidden to photograph the exhibits"... the room was completely empty. When I pointed this out to the indignant Security person, he said the installation had recently been completed at a cost of £130,000... it appeared to be an empty gallery painted out in white matt emulsion.... apparently, he went on to inform me, the artist had taken 3 weeks to meticulously paint everything white, including 16 speakers, each of which played a separate continuous loop of people chatting to each other...

I was also in a large group, for a friend's birthday. The food was overcooked, in very small portions, and took over an hour to arrive.
