Dogtrousers
Kilometre nibbler
Yesterday I didn't take any sun block. They call me Mr Lobsterlegs.
I've seen that done, literally, on the bike path just outside Brugge/Bruges.Nothing, ever: I carry the kitchen sink, spares too![]()
My 500ml tool bottle contains:I use a 750ml water bottle in my seat tube bottle cage with pump, inner, levers, latex gloves; with spare space for eg spare rear light (and a couple of jelly babies (bagged) to keep my blood sugar up as I replace a punctured tube).
Don't you find a whole inner tube more use, Pat? Or is your philosophy 'patch by the roadside'?My 500ml tool bottle contains:
. . . strips of inner tube, . . .
Inner tubes, 2 of them, sometimes 3 but not the same sizeDon't you find a whole inner tube more use, Pat? Or is your philosophy 'patch by the roadside'?
Myself, on the commute, I carry nothing, as I'm well Marathoned and don't get punctures, ever.
Longer distance I will carry the sink again, still don't get punctures![]()
Because you're facing a long walk home if you do puncture, and all for the sake of a few bits and bobs?I'm starting to think this way.
The Marathons on my bike don't puncture, so why carry spare tube, pump, Park patches, ring spanner to remove the hub rear wheel, tyre levers, etc?
I think it's conditioned behaviour, any sensible cyclist carries puncture repair stuff, so I must.

In the first week of riding Continental's Touring Plus (similar level of protection to the M+) I got a 4 inch phillips head screw through my front tyre and into the tube (a combination of untidy shop fitters and busses forcing me into their debris field). Depends where you're riding, I guess, but Manchester is pretty unpredictable, so I always carry a kit, tube & pump. The Marathons on my bike don't puncture, so why carry spare tube, pump, Park patches, ring spanner to remove the hub rear wheel, tyre levers, etc?

I reckon you'd know pretty quickly if you'd picked up a 4 inch screw, maybe even before the psssssh!I got a 4 inch phillips head screw through my front tyre
42c tyre, but it didn't stay up long, admittedly.I reckon you'd know pretty quickly if you'd picked up a 4 inch screw, maybe even before the psssssh!
You sure it wasn't a Pozidrive head screw? They're subtly different, so I'm told.In the first week of riding Continental's Touring Plus (similar level of protection to the M+) I got a 4 inch phillips head screw through my front tyre and into the tube (a combination of untidy shop fitters and busses forcing me into their debris field). You've just reminded me that my emergency bottle opener/corkscrew is no longer in my bag. Must remedy that;Corkscrew,![]()
