I was driving to work in my tin box and I nearly ran a cyclist over.

He opted to filter into oncoming traffic (on the wrong side of the road)

I nearly hit him as he just appeared at my end of my bonnet from nowhere. The traffic was stationary on the other side and he just emerged onto the wrong side of the road.

I made my feelings known about his blatant stupidity and all he did was make a face at me. I'm pretty sure he would have given me the finger had he not had handlebars to hold on to!

It's irresponsible people like this that give us all a bad name, sadly  It kinda shook me up, could have killed the guy.

No, he doesn't give us all a bad name, he gives himself a bad name. We really need to dismiss the collective responsibility BS.
When you see someone driving badly, does that give all drivers a bad name?
Do bank robbers and rapists give skiers a bad name simply because they all wear balaclavas?
Did Joe Stalin give all people called Joe a bad name?

Of course not, it's idiotic.

Actually yes bad drivers DO give motorists a bad name - check out a lot of the threads on this forum. You don't remember the hundred good ones you pass everyday only the idiot who cuts you up/ passes too close etc.
He wont kill himself either, he will drag someone else into his stupidity. Even if it is "his" fault I have seen at first hand the result of killing someone in an "accident" [actually it was a suicide but the effect on the driver was devastating].
Skiers may be ok but to meet someone in a dark street wearing a balaclava can often be a cure for constipation.
Stupid riders are a disease and just to say "hey ho it doesn't really matter" is just a good way to harden opinion againt cyclists.

Most folk lump us all together. They don't remember the curteous cyclist or driver, they remember the idiot or 'yob on a bike'. I hate to break it to you but the general public hold you in the same regard as the 'yob on a bike'. Why else do you think you get punishment passes, etc? To think joe bloggs doesn't include you in his assessment that all cyclists are idiots who hold him up and shouldn't be on the road and deserve close passes is naive.

Look at how people on this forum lump mercedes, BMW, and Audi drivers together. I have owned and driven all three. According to this forum, I'm an peanut driver.

My reputation is untarnished by the plum, thank you very much. Or is your reputation hindered by mobile wielding motorists? (Rhetorical, you get the point)

Good and bad in all forms of traveller including pedestrians , but I prefer to say that it is inevitable that as a human I will make a mistake now and then and therefore would be wrong to assume others didn't do the same . You didn't hurt him he didn't hurt you so smile and continue on and enjoy your day .
Honestly I see a lot of bad road use every single day and I'm no saint myself , but what I have learned over the years is that screaming obscenities or getting activated does t help my driving nor does it make for a better day . I once bibbed a cyclist who went through a red as I was halfway through on green he gave me the finger called me a few very nice names i smiled and went on my way happy I'd tried but failed to educate someone who will one day maybe be in the cyclist down thread (hopefully not)

He was a Romulan, it wasn't a bike it was a war bird, and it de-cloaked at the end of your bonnet?
