A reminder (if one were needed) that the sense of success in life is usually only fleeting and that it needs to be savoured at the time .. because it won’t last.

At least you’re only competing against yourself in CC challenges (unless I’ve overlooked something) – and quite often you’re competing against an earlier version of yourself (trying – and sometimes failing – to improve on previous years, for instance).

However, you can congratulate yourself on completing 60 successive weeks in this challenge – and no-one can take that away from you!

60 weeks! Got to add up to a few days solid cycling just on the minimum times. You've done the same number of weeks but I reckon yours must tot up to a few weeks of solid cycling

Failed again at this for a second year. I blame my son and his girlfriend for visiting and forcing me to the beach for sun, sea and sangria for a couple of weeks. Back in the saddle this week though and hoping for a good weather March so I can put in a 1000k month. Fingers crossed.

@Houthakker ... this is week 9 (not week 8). You last posted on 21 February with your week 7 rides

Does that mean you forgot to post your week 8 rides ? or that you didn't do any rides between 20th and 26th February?

I'm envious of you enjoying the sea air, cycling along the prom ..

Puzzle game procrastinator!
Ride durations rounded down to the nearest quarter of an hour and excluding breaks.

Week 9: 3 rides, 78 km, 4.5 hrs.
  • Ride 1 (Mon): (Singlespeed) 20 km. Up and down the A646 towards Burnley, plus a couple of local hills. 1 hr.
  • Ride 2 (Tue): (Singlespeed) 8km. Lumpy local loop. 1/2 hr.
  • Ride 3 (Thu): ('Dinglespeed'***) 50 km. Tod, Littleborough, Blackstone Edge, Blue Ball loop, Craggies cafe, Blackstone Edge, Littleborough, Tod. I used the 42/29 gear between Littleborough and the cafe; the 52/19 before and after that part of the ride. Wanted to get 50 km in so added an extra climb back in town. 3 hrs.
Success rate: 9 weeks out of 9.

27 rides so far this year, totalling 449 km, and taking approximately 25.75 hrs.

*** My formerly singlespeed bike now actually has 2 gears (52/19 and 42/29) which I can change between by getting off and moving the chain by hand. Dinglespeed is short for Double singlespeed. I only use the 42/29 if I am tackling a long/steep climb which I cannot manage in 52/19.

Well thats me done for this week
W10R1 5/3/23 1:56:35 21.7 miles Across the moss, around the back of Blackpool to Bispham then 10 miles back along the seafront.
W10R2 6/3/23 1:12:03 13.4 miles Saltcotes, Wrea Green, Warton, home.
W10R3 8/3/23 1:05:15 10.7 miles Along the prom, round the back of St Annes, loop through Lytham hall. Sleet and windy!

I have just been called in early by the hospitalfor an operation tomorrow morning, so not sure when I'll be able to get back on the bike.
Am hoping I might be able to make 30 mins by next Thursday and so can still get 3 rides in next week to stay in the challenge, we'll see.

Don't rush it !

Make sure you've recovered properly before going out on your bike after the op.

And you can leave it to the weekend anyway - a ride on Saturday and a couple on Sunday would be fine - but make sure you're OK first.

Good luck
