Hi,
Rear brake wont fully spring back out on releasing the brakes, dragging the brakes. Fully stripped down cleaned and lubed. Is it a case of they are now knackered and a new pair required? Or is there something I`m not adjusting correctly?

Cheers

The quick cure is to spray with WD40 around the central axle as muck may have got in.

However itt could be a tad more difficult - the locknut may have moved and closed up under pressure so WD40 wont help and you may have to undo it a tad

Sounds like something is a bit tight somewhere. I don't think the return springs wear out.

Maybe a daft qurstion, but is the cable itself moving freely?

Hi,
Fully stripped down cleaned and lubed.

When you say fully stripped down, did you actually take everything to bits, removing all the various grub screws and bolts to separate out the arms? My brakes were binding on a while back and a full strip down and regrease made them just like new again.

When you have reassembled make sure you don't overtighten the bolts as you may be interfering with the freedom of movement that the arms need to have - this is why they have grub screws to stop the bolts moving when you have set them just right.

Thanks guys, cable moves freely, bolts not overtightened, caliper just needs to snap open a few mm. Dam annoying trying to fix.

As this post has had quite a few views, I thought I would update...

Stripped the brake caliper down again and cleaned it thouroughly, to then realise when assembling it back on the bike, what a numpty I had been. On attaching the cable, I realised I had not taken enough slack out of the cable. If I had readjusted the cable stretch thingy, instead of putting it back on as I found it, my problem wouldn`t `have occured. Anyways all now working ok.
Thanks
