Hi All,

I've been researching my family history; I've recently found that when my Great Grandfather died in 1933, he left an estate of £3000.

I was just wondering, what would be the equivalent of that today ?

(No, he didn't leave anything to me ^_^)

You need more information than that, for instance if part of the estate related to a house in say Notting Hill it could now be worth millions.

According to the Bank of England inflation calculator [which is fantastic as you get all sorts of information] £3000 in 1933 would be worth £176,000 in 2011- they haven't done the index for 2012 yet].

Here's the site: http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/education/Pages/inflation/calculator/index1.aspx

But take that with a pinch of salt as a house that a client bought cost them £350,000 last year but was sold in 1966 for £6600- so there are some pretty wide margins for error.

Now about the huge white £5 note that is in my wallet.....it's been there since 1936, how much is that worth (plus the moths as well)?

The 'A' series £5 note, or 'White Fiver' was first issued in 1793, when it was worth in today's money some £437.16, and remained in circulation until 1957 when its equivalent value was some £83.20.
The worth of a white fiver today is somewhere between £50 and £120 depending so very much on condition and age.
The average value of a white fiver today is circa £60-70 which you will notice is actually less than when in circulation.

google says,

A pub quiz is a quiz held in a public house. These events are also called quiz nights [1] or trivia nights[2] and may be held in other settings. Pub quizzes may attract customers to a pub who are not found there on other days. The pub quiz is a modern example of a pub game. Though different pub quizzes can cover a range of formats and topics, they have many features in common
