I'm really pleased for you. Especially that you seemed to have a good time and didn't spend a loads of time suffering and wishing it would end. A total of 9 and a half hours on and off the bike and 100 miles suggests that you and your bike are well suited, and that your preparation was good.

On the subject of opening food while riding, I snip the ends off the wrappers a few cereal bars and stick them in my jersey pockets for easy access food. Of course, if your preferred food happens to be gels or cartons of ambrosia custard this could be a messy approach. On the subject of craving crisps, I often have a packet of salted peanuts in my food supply.

So what next? A 200k audax?

Actually..... um, no!

The next things to look forward to are ride leader training and a club taster session in the velodrome.

I should have replied on this thread sooner to thank you all for your great advice. I think I took heed of all of it and it was much appreciated. From getting everything ready the night before and a check list to resting leading up to the event and breaking the ride down mentally into shorter chunks all worked.
Having never forgotten the front wheel, I got a bit worried about that after Colin mentioned it and was quite chuffed to find it in the car when I arrived!
Report in the 'Your ride today'. Still feeling a bit giddy that I did it.

I see you did a moving average of more than 14mph, which suggests to me you pretty much smashed it.

You could go further and maybe a bit faster if you wanted to.

Seems to me all you lack, or did lack, was confidence.

I wonder if that's partly a gender thing.

A couple of women are among the strongest riders in my Sunday morning group.

But a bit like you, they worry about some of the longer rides, even though they are more than capable of chalking them off.

We recently did a 105 mile ride.

The two ladies in question finished more strongly than some of the men who were struggling towards the end.

Expanding my point a little bit, I reckon @Pat "5mph" is another lady who is a stronger and faster rider than she gives herself credit for.

Here's a link to your report for those like me who struggled to dig it out of the 'Your Ride' thread.

Thanks for posting the link. I really must learn how to do that.

You're partly right. I have a problem with riding inconsistently with too many stops and slowing down too much on hills, relying on faster riding on the downhills and straights to keep up a reasonable average. So, on a group ride, I struggle to keep up, then on a faster stretch of road, I can't go as fast as I would like because of the people in front of me. It's something that I will be working on.
