My brother in law Stewart Fraser and his friend Paul Rymer are cycling from Burstwick golf course, near Hull in East Yorks to Gleneagles and back.... In 4 days. Over 600 miles and 40,000 feet of ascent. Yesterday was day one, they covered 158 miles and over 9000 feet of ascent, most of it into a fairly stiff head wind. Average speed was 15.2 mph, all info off Strava.

Stewart is the course professional at Burstwick and his plan was to do something for charity that tied in with the Ryder Cup. Don't ask why they aren't staying to watch some of it after all the effort of getting there, because I don't have a Scooby
Anyway the charity they are doing it for is the Kerry Key Foundation, which Stewart is close to for various reasons. If anyone is interested there is Justgiving page which I could perhaps post a link to.

Finally, I hope you'll all join me in wishing them all the best for the next 3 days, as apparently they were pretty shattered on finishing last night, according to the support, Stews partner Sonja. They don't really have access to the pro back up, lol.

Day 2 and arrived at Gleneagles. Unfortunately Stewart had to go solo as Paul was quite ill, don't know full details, but hopefully he'll be able to continue today.
Stew covered 137 miles and 7,800 feet of ascent at an average speed of 15.6 miles an hour. Also, according to Strava he's used over 14,000 calories over the 2 days. Don't know how accurate Strava is on this and if it takes into account the headwind etc, but I wouldn't want the bill for food etc.
They'll be hoping the wind stays in the same direction for the return journey and gives a bit of help.
Thanks for reading.

That is a hell of a long way in 4 days. I used to live in the terraces next to the old school in Burstwick. I wish Stew well. I take it he is a cyclist as well as a golf Pro?

He's been cycling for quite a few years, but taken it more seriously for the last 3 or 4 years Steve. Bit of a fanatic nowadays, you could say, gets out as much as possible, work commitments allowing. Likes a bit of a challenge though...obviously, lol.

Day 3, on the return run now. Peebles - Hawick - Kielder. Stew says 2 bucket list rides in there. Anyway, they covered 160 miles, with 11,115 feet of ascent at an average speed of 16 mph. Another phenomenal effort. Stewart reckons he's falling to pieces now, but is determined to finish, with only 1 day of torture ahead. Hope they get through it safely with no long term injuries.

Sorry for the delay in news of the final day, but I've had a couple of very long days at work.
Anyway, day 4 - well, they completed the distance at 8 pm on Thursday night, having covered 152 miles, plus plenty of ascent, at an average of 15.2 mph. They were met at Burstwick Golf course, by friends and family and treated to champagne and plenty of food, beef Stew and Yorkshire Puddings, I believe, which they ate plenty of. Both guys were pretty shattered and Stewart had to take co codamol on the last day, to ease pain in his knees (is this allowed.? Lol) I couldn't attend because of work commitments, but would like you to join me in congratulating them both on a fantastic achievement, which Stew reckons is a once in a lifetime thing. I reckon he could be wrong, after a few days there's sure to be a feeling of anti climax and the need to plan for the next adventure. That always happened to me in the past, I'm sure it'll be the same for these guys. Not sure how much was raised, but when I find out I'll put it on here.
Well, thats it, thanks for reading.
