My boss for many years was a smoker

tried to give up many times

once he gave up for over a year and one day in the pub some offered him a fag when he was in the middle of telling a joke and before he finished the joke he was a smoker again
Even his daughters screaming at him that he was just smoking so he would die early and leave them wasn;t enough


Then one day he came into the office and said that he was now a non-smoker
not ex - non

he said something had just clicked in his head and said he could stop now so he did

he still had half a packet left and several weeks later he said he had not felt even the slightest urge to have one

no idea what it was - something just changed in his head

That was rather weird (he was at time!!!) but I think it needs something like that to fix an addiction
if your head isn;t in the right place then no amount of determination will work


all this is the reason I never started smoking - I could see how hard it was to give up
I am very glad I was like that when it was tempting to try

A teacher at my old school once said she was a 30 a day smoker. She woke up one day, lit up, and immediately stubbed it out as she just didn't fancy it. She lit up again and hour later, same thing, stubbed it out. From that point on she never smoked again! Weird

I quit the flags over the course of 3 or 4 days.

I decided one day that I really wanted to quit, used my final pack to taper off the numbers over a few days and that was that.

If you really want to quit you will. If your heart isn't genuinely in in then it's very difficult.

I haven't entirely renounced alcohol (and I did have a pint tonight at the pub during ukulele band practice), but I don't drink much nowadays. Often I go for a diet cola instead.

Indoors, the drinks cupboard is well stocked, in case visitors fancy a drink, but I only very rarely partake of anything. I might, tomorrow evening, if the football is a bit tense though....
