My dad got early retirement and pension at 58. He'd had a heart attack at 47 and managed to work on after it but worked on. He enjoyed his retirement after the first 6 months, when he was at at a loss, having worked since he was 14. Sadly a second heart attack finished him at 63. That very day he'd mentioned what a wonderful 5 years he'd had.

So when I got to 55 and had the chance to retire I took it like a shot. Six years on I'm cycling, mowing my Father-in-Laws large lawn and took up a new hobby.Birdwatching earlier this year. Funnily enough my dad had started Birdwatching early in his retirement too.

The wheel turns.

Well done!
Do keep him occupied though.

When my Dad retired it was in conjunction with a move from London to a granny flat in my house. He had nothing to do and got depressed. I decided to tell him I couldn't cope with the renovations on the house without his skills and knowledge and got him to 'help' me. It took a while but it brought him back and he is now more active then I am!
You sneak... send him round, we've got loads of therapy he can do....

My Dad's hale and hearty at 66, coming up on 67. He's a junior partner in a specialist business finance firm and he could quite and sell his share, but he's a keen pilot and the salary keeps him in the air regularly, not to mention flying himself around Europe on business and writing the cost off against the firm.

Conversely, in 4 and a half years I'll have been working for the Queen for 30 years continuously and will be able to take my pension. I was thinking of working full time somewhere, but with the Missus unwell I may only be able to woprk P/T, and on top of my pension it may be disadvantageous re income tax - I'll have to take professional advice nearer the time, see howthe land lies.

He's a junior partner, how old is the senior partner.....

After being shot for 25 and a half years, I'm not surprised you are looking forward to taking it easy. Keep safe Drago!

Been shot at more times in the Dibble than I ever was in the Army! Got the knife scars, a left knee I can no longer kneel thanks to having had the bursa removed following being assaulted, and an arm full of titanium acquired when another laddo assaulted me on the job, so I'm hoping I can survive my 30 without any more injuries or I may may end up unemployable!
