On an equally 'old' note
I still have some of the Christophe(?) double toe-clips in the shed
They date back to when I was racing CX/MTB, before SPDs (or before I bought any - think I got my first pair in 91?)

well don't forget how to get out of them if you ever give them a try. took mine for a spin the other night & forgot. almost went down coming to a stop at an intersection. I'm so used to cleated pedals/shoes releasing a certain way, twist & up. can't do that w/ toe clips!

I used covers like that in winter in the days when I rode with clips. Now of course it tends to be full shoe covers with clipless. I still have one bike with clips, but it gets saved for nice days in summer
