Various Franco-Belge bande dessinée. "Le petit Spirou" for one.

Similar here. Not Spirou but various others. Ms P reads them, and, since they are there, so do I. Slowly.

There's sometimes some cycling magazines too, often a Big Issue, bits of the newspaper and, for some time, Bicycling Science.

I am in and out in about a minute. Never thought of reading!

Same here.

Last year a mate of mine (we were on holiday) disappeared into the loo for about 20 mins with a book. His wife said he always did.

My tip. Leave the book near a comfortable chair in the living room. Do the job, wash your hands and get out.

Spend the 20 mins reading the same book in comfort.

My parents have a small bookshelf in their loo as well

If I did that, I'd spend 20 mins thinking 'I wish I'd brought that book with me', then when I got back downstairs, 'Bugger, I've not got time to read now'....

I don't want any details exactly please, but what would you be in there for 20 mins for at all?

I know a good laxative if that helps ;)

I've occasionally wondered when my mate does it. Do you sit on the loo for 20 mins, or do you do the deed, clean up and sit on the loo with the seat down?

If you're sitting on the actual loo, isn't that incredibly uncomfortable?

I can't believe I'm posting this - but I'd love to know!

surely, as a medical man, you'd recommend taking your time about these things?

I confess that I do still sometimes take ten minutes or so, just contemplating the world. Having a book to hand is really neither here nor there, but it's not unknown for me to take a book with the works of Vermeer in there with me. In a world which is rush, rush, rush it doesn't do any harm to give one's bowels a bit of a breather...

Without getting too graphic, it just takes awhile to pass. I do eat plenty of fibre as well, if I didn't, I'd only go every other week and it'd be like a wardrobe.

It can get a bit uncomfortable, and it's not good to do in the summer when wearing shorts as the seat marks show....

Friends of ours had a downstairs loo with its own bookcase stocked with a variety of tomes, many of them about cats.

Several years ago while doing a Walney to Wear ride I was enquiring about campsites in a village near Barnard Castle when a local woman offered me and my riding partner the use of her paddock.

She also gave us a key to the house so that we could use the toilet. What a toilet! Floor to ceiling shelving filled with books on trains and boats and planes. It had been fitted out by her late husband. What impeccable taste he had.

I'm all for slowing the pace of modern life and taking time out for quiet contemplation and I'm all for reading...

10 minutes I'll accept but 20!

I like to quietly contemplate and read on a comfortable sofa ;)

My loo is like a Sussex branch of Stanfords.
I've got all the different Michelin maps of the regions of France in there, maps of Italy, Benelux & bits of Espana, plus OS maps of nice parts of the UK too.
I love maps, me.

Not that I linger but we've a Viz book, the Bear Family catalogue (fantastic German record label), Dinkum Dunnies - an Oz book of rural khazis, the Tommy Cooper joke book and 'All the Best People' pick of Peterborough 1929-1945 from The Telegraph.

Something for everyone! ;)
