Hi, Does anyone have experience with Topeak racks and bags? I'm looking to get the MTX TRUNKBAG DXP bag with one of the following racks. I have a hybrid bike with disc brakes, so I'm looking at disc brake model racks.

There's a lot of choice in Topeak racks, so I'm reaching out to anyone who has experience with them.

Considerations:

The DX models have a seperate bar for panniers, but I'm not looking to get full on panniers atm as the trunk bag comes with saddle bags that fold up when not needed. Do the bars on the DX models have any other use?

The "UNI" models have adjustable legs which seems like a good option as I'd like to set the legs lower as I've heard a lower center of gravity of better for bike stability.

I'm also little concerned with the saddles bags either fouling with the wheels or interfering with peddling. Anyone have experience with this?

Also, Anyone have any experience with the spings on Topeak racks?

I'm open to suggestions as well Thanks everyone!

I've used the slide on one with fold out panniers for years on multiple bikes, disc and non disc. Need to use the side bits to attach the panniers too, the panniers have elastic fixings which loop around the little bits at the bottom of the side bits.

DX rack and a slightly different bag. No spring as the bag slides on

I've rarely had an issue with heel strike whilst pedalling ;) and I often have the bags quite full with shopping

Superb bits of kit

Couple of rubbish photos, just home (non disc bike)

Hi, Thanks for the info and pics! Which rack do you have? Do you ever have issues with the saddle bags fouling with the wheels?

No because they attach to the side bits on the rack. How could they foul the wheels?

Okay, thanks, the pic helps. I was concerned that if the vertical bars on the rack aren't in the right places, the saddle bags might foul with the wheels. It seems though that those rigid side panels rest against the bars and prevent the bag from fouling. It looks like your saddle bag might be smaller capacity than the one I'm considering.

Like @vickster I've been using the Super Tourist DX rack for the last 6 years or so, almost daily on my commuter/shopper. Worth bearing on mind that if your rear disc caliper is inside the rear triangle then you can get away with the non-disc version, I have and it's fitted to a Boardman CX Team.
Bag wise I use the MTX DXP, amazing just how much you can get in it with the bags dropped.

It’s actually rather large. This today including a full size Abus Granit lock
Barely half full

Okay, I mean the saddle bags. I know the trunk bag part will have good capacity. You sent me a link to your EXP, which would be smaller in capacity to the DXP according to Topeak's site https://www.topeak.com/global/en/products/bags
I didn't know that they varied in size. I can get a full bag of shopping each
Or a laptop, clothes and shoes in one
I also have some Ortlieb panniers if I ever get to go touring (which would be a different bike with a standard lightweight rack)

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I noticed how non-disc racks can be used on some disc brake bikes. The brake caliper was in the rear triangle on pics I saw. My bike has calipers not in the triangle, so I'd be getting a disc brake version. I've heard good overall reviews on the DXP bag.

Just for the record, i used the blackburn mtn rack - https://www.evanscycles.com/blackburn-mtn-rack-v1-00120871
On a 700c wheel hybrid. This was running 35 mm tyres and mudgaurds but the 26" rack fitted fine with the 700c wheels and disc brakes and mudgaurds. It is very much suck-it-and-see. All depends on caliper location and height of rack mounting point.
Hi, Thanks for this, but I'm only considering Topeak racks at the moment to work with the MTX Quick Track trunk bag
