Hello
I got this free for a year when I bought my bike and it's due for renewal. Do you think is worth it?

I felt a bit cycnical when I saw the ad but when I read that the premium is only £18 I thought it sounded pretty good actually, as long as you're sure they wil give you free legal help.

Are you sure your household insurance doesn't already cover you for most of that?

its not Theft insurance its accident cover. might be worth joing the CTC as an affiliate ( dellzegg on here can give lots of details) for similar, and they also do do insurance cover for all sorts of cyclists.

I know the thread has been dormant for a while, but this seemed relevant. I had an accident last Thursday (fractured 2 bones in my neck, very lucky to have no other injuries). I am signed up with total cycle assist and so far they have been great. I'll let you know how things progress.

"You can pass our cover on to anybody you wish outside your family: so if a friend or relative has an accident you can give them our helpline and we’ll give them our full range of services to the same extent as if they were you and it won’t cost them or you a penny!"
That strikes me as very odd. So I could claim via TCA despite not paying a premium, just because my mate's got a policy? I'm very suspicious about that.

"In the event of a non-fault accident ... You will keep up to 100% of your compensation award."
Up to? I'd need more clarity on that part as I'd expect to keep the lot.

Having seen that they offer this service for cars, motorbikes and vans with the same 'benefits' and at the same price of £24, it's my guess these are a new form of claim compensation specialists who'll make their money by skimming from any compensation you might be entitled to.

I'd like to see the full terms and conditions of the policy before handing over any money. I can't find them on the site so I've requested them by email.

Looks like accidental cover against uninsured drivers IF you can prove the accident was their fault , advert looks misleading to say the least.

Hmm, can't see that they are a proper insurance company (regulated by the insurance authority), hence subject to the regulations around it, in particular requirement to have a complaints procedure in line with guidance.

Perhaps @srw can comment?

The reply from the company is:

None of our products are insurance products, but “service products”.
We have an assistance product for cars, vans, motorcycles and bicycles and they all provide a 24 helpline and all the support services that don’t get with an insurer.

The terms and conditions can found on the individual websites and these can be navigated from our main website www.assist-protect.co.uk

Thought it looked too good to be true. BC offers up to £10 000 000 third party liability, along with other benefits, for a similar amount.

Hope you recover quickly and that their evil weevils legal eagles serve you well.
