Once Evenepoel disappeared from the front, he impeded Merlier on his way back. Weird to even be there. Merlier had no help after that, an impressive win.

I get wanting to help out, but he's the peloton's worst windbreak and he's got no real experience in sprint finales and is too small to make space. It's madness he's anywhere near it. Take a turn on the front up to 5km out and then chill.

Jonas to a Dutch TV station pre-race (re the interview with his wife published yesterday)
"You guys have a limited amount of time and you're wasting your time on something that's not important, and I don't care"

While I do like his way of dealing with it, they are the ones who opened this can of worms. Girlfriends, wives, parents etc. aren't forced to give interviews.

Sure, but for context, Politiken is a well respected and non tabloid paper, so if they have click-baited it up and spun it for maximum controversy then that would be unexpected. Both Jonas and his wife have been pretty open with the Danish press, but that might have just changed. For the record, I haven't read the original interview and can't say either way whether she's been done up like a kipper or not.

Update from Alpecin on Philipsen

"Preliminary diagnosis for Jasper Philipsen following his crash in Stage 3 of @letourdefrance :
Displaced fracture of the right collarbone, surgery will definitely be required. At least one broken rib, possibly two. He will be as soon as possible transferred to the hospital in Herentals, where he will undergo surgery."

Tomorrow's stage info and there's a bit more to digest. It's another stage that is susceptible to the wind....

Coquard got a yellow card for the intermediate sprint, which seems very harsh. Just about everyone seems to agree it was a no-fault racing incident

He moved into the rider on his right trying to squeeze where there wasn't room. Deserved the card IMHO

He moved to avoid Milans back wheel going all over the place as Milan started to sprint. If theres any blame its the UCIs relegation regime forcing teams to look for points anywhere, hence Coquard no doubt being ordered to try to get some points in the intermediate sprint.
