Train ticket splitting: why is it sometimes so effective?

Its not quite as bad as that, firstly its a return trip so 28 tickets each way, then its for 2 people, so its actually 14 tickets per journey

Really this sort of thing should be a standard part of the booking algorithms on the train company websites. The splitticket website feels a bit home made so the code can't be that complex I would have thought

No it should not, the system should not be so screwed up in the first place.

Yebbut - imagine how much worse it would have been I'd he also taken a bike on trains that needed a reservation....

I can't beat 56 tickets, but I did once get 19 when doing a return journey from Hebden Bridge to Coventry with my bike - DETAILS.
