I find that training alone can be quite boring but because I can go at my pace and not worry about pushing too hard or holding back faster riders then it's worth it.

Training with a faster training partner might on the face of it be good for fitness but the downside is the de-motivation of having to hang on. Inevitably there is a bit of rivallry and half wheeling involved.

....and excuses

"Oh and by the way I rode for 3 hours yesterday, and didn't sleep a wink all night."

What excuses have you heard for a rider not feeling good during a group ride?

...if it's any of this home Counties/London lot on a CC ride it'll be alcohol related...and we're not talking training rides Bill!

EDIT:

To respond seriously - I like training solitary as I can go at the pace i need to for that day and can assess my conditions to see if i stay out as planned or call it a day but mind you when out with others it does give you the momentum to not wimp out as quickly as you would do.
