Transferring Money Abroad Using PayPal

Has anyone used Paypal to transfer money from the UK to a foreign country? It looks like where I want to send the money it is a 1% fee for a cash gift. Is it that simple?

No, there's a much better way of doing it. Far and away the cheapest way I know, and it is easy and efficient: Transferwise, a peer to peer organisation, now backed by Richard Branson apparently.

I've Paypal-ed for foreign ebay purchases. Seems to work OK

Looks interesting but the country and currency I want to send to isn't on their supported list.

I use Transferwise as well. Very pleased with it too, both costs and speed of transfer.

You're not paying another administration fee to claim your Algerian lottery winnings are you? I thought you would have enough money now after that civil servant paid you a cut of the surplus funds left over from the big government contract he wanted to transfer out of the country via your account.....

Don't worry. I have sent money to places not on their supported list. Just ring them up and tell them what you want to do, and they'll make a plan.
