No true enough, was it Aqua blue he went from to Ineos?
Soon after he joined he was REALLY present (As I recall it) in a lot of races, but then did fade somewhat, and I had high hopes for when he went to Jayco, but I don't think anything earth shattering happened there.

I'm guessing he will potentially be going there as a domestique to TP, but will get a shout in some of the other TP-less races.

I think there was always a touch of anti-Sky/Ineos in how he was rated by some, there was a definite loud contingent that thought that he was being held back by Sky and they were ruining his career, but he's not really pulled up any trees in the three seasons since he left them. Decent rider, but he's never really lived up the hype of his early years

He's had a lot of bad luck with injuries but, as he showed at the Vuelta last year, he's a very decent rider. I think this is more a case of Q36.5 being ambitious to claim a WT spot over the next 3 year cycle than Eddie not being WT level.

They are definitely looking to build a strong team, fair play.

What's Fred's deal? He's a very likeable character but he doesn't win races, isn't a lead out man and isn't a mountain domestique.
Can anyone complete the sentence: as a team principal, I'm going to sign Fred because......

On the latest Cycling Podcast they did a long bit on the travails of Ineos (which IMHO was not their best work) and after saying Ineos needed to sign more winners they then suggested... Fred Wright.

He seems like a good guy, is a solid rider and must be due a decent win soon but proven winner he is not

For all I love TCP they've always had a strange attitude to Skineos. They seem to worry that it'll reduce their global appeal if they appear to lean too closely to them.

Because he has the name of a 1950's world-beater, for God and For Empire!

Looking at his far-misses in big races and the kind of points they generate, he's the kind of rider that XDS Astana might have hired for 2025. Perhaps a reliable points accumulator is what Q36.5 need to keep the big race invites flowing for the next 3 years.

The article I read suggested they have primarily signed him for the classics, potentially as a second option/foil for TP, or to target those races where TP is not present.
He strikes me as a sound signing and a hard worker - 2022 was his standout year I would suggest, but maybe a change of scenery will revitalise him and we'll see some really good results.

Top tens in MSR and Roubaix aren't to be sniffed at - pretty much all his other classics results were while supporting Mohoric, he's rarely been let off the leash, and when he has it's been halfway through the race rather than from the beginning.
