I dou bt it's that rushed. He spent most of the winter looking down the barrel of an end to his career he hadn't chosen, just to not having a new contract. That's the sort of thing that gives you perspective.

Maybe, but the decision to take on the Ineos contract was a bit hasty then?

It's an odd one. I've just read his full statement.

He seems sincere and is very nice about ineos. If my theory that he'd fallen out with them was true then I'm sure he would have been a bit snippy. Maybe he's just had enough

Didn't he drop out of his last race with no explanation given after winning the first stage? It seemed odd at the time and more so now.

TBH I'm not sure a sprinter needs to give much explanation when leaving a stage race that doesn't have anything left but hills and mountains The remaining stages of Itzulia Basque were won by Aranburu, Healy and Aleida (2)

I think any sprinter of decent standing needs to explain why they're going to Itzulia as much as why they're leaving.

Yes I suppose there must be, as it's a REALLY odd time of the season to depart.
The press release is full of thanks, and gushing about his tenure though, but it does seem rather strange
.
It feels like longer than 14 years I've been hearing his name associated with the team, but I must be misremembering - a big name departing pro cycling - well unless he pops up for another team I suppose.

For those thinking that the timing is curious; I second that emulsion.
