Also thought the August move a bit odd, INEOS develop him and just at the point he is starting to get the wins he leaves. Obvs we don't know the whole story, maybe Q365 just made him a better offer

August won the overall at whatever tour it was. Best result they've had in a while!

I would be.

There was never any chance of him starting the Vuelta, having raced 1.5 GTs already this season and having little time to prepare for it given he's just had a load of metalwork put into his shoulder. He might have been able to train for the Worlds, but it's not really his sort of race (the hard climb is less than 2km) even if he was a one day racer. This season was always going to be over after the Tour, barring a possible visit to Canada.

He's still got some career goals (e.g. winning all the big 7 stage races - 5 down 2 to go) and I'm sure he's aware that it only takes a moment's lost concentration and it could be Pog slipping out on a corner instead of him, and I saw nothing to suggest that any of the podium contenders have significantly closed the gap on him yet
