One of my children needs to get to Brighton Uni for an interview, and they need to be there by 9. Apparently parking is horrendous to non existent and by train from Bristol would be 2 changes at Paddington and Victoria. Just wondering if anyone has any better suggestions? I'm not always the best at working out good train routes.

Go the day before and stay overnight in London or Brighton. Much less stressful than getting to the uni for 09:00.

In theory there's Bristol to either Southampton or Fratton, and then change there to Brighton. But that wouldn't work for a 9am arrival. As an alternative to what you've suggested, you could do Bristol to Paddington, then Circle or Hammersmith & City tube to Farringdon, then pick up the Thameslink train to Brighton, which would mean less walking, as in Farringdon the tube line is the next platform along.

Vernon's right though, staying over would be less hassle.

Falmer is the right place. I don't think you can change the time, I think it's an all day thing, so starts gently, and then group activities and individual interview at some point.

My parents live between Maidenhead and Slough if that makes a good overnight stop or is that still too far away and we'd be better doing a travel lodge nearby Brighton itself?

Not sure when it is, as there is a couple of dates offered and it's working out which ones fit, but it's going to be Mr Summerdays as I'm unlikely to get the Wednesdays off, Ive got work stuff on all the offered dates. It's annoying as it would be nice to see different bits of the country. I think I was expecting more notice but the first date is this Wednesday! Thanks for the kind offer anyway!

Well the offer stands if Mr SD and daughter need a stop-over, lift or local travel advice:thumbsup:

I'll let them know, though my daughter would probably give me a lecture about meeting up with strangers on the internet..... (And that would be without giving her the full low down on you!), she still brings up the time I let a stranger camp in the back garden overnight.

I believe there is a direct train from Yate/Bristol Parkway/Temple Meads.. Checked the current timetable and there is at least one direct train during weekdays but not weekends.

You can also travel to Southampton by rail quite easily and change there for Brighton, although it would be less stressful to go the day before and stay over as suggested by @vernon.
