If you read what I put, I pointed out drop bar shifters are more expensive than flat bar, which does explain the better spec for the price. I'm reassured you agree with me, I think

Please note that the Trek Domane AL2 disc is now £895. Still a good bike for the money I think and when you are 70 and don't intend to do any competition, I personally have no complaints about the specs, if I was to buy one.

yes, its not bad, but it wouldn't make my short list if I was bike buying. I'm 70 at the end of the year and only interesterd in an occasional bimble these days.
