I nearly posted a grumble a while back about bike shops that don't open on a Sunday (which is most around the North East). You know, Sunday as in one of the only two days that most working people have spare to go and buy bikes & stuff. But I've just realised that one of my local (ish) shops is closed both Saturday and Sunday! A shop I was planning to have a look in with the possibility of buying a new bike. Now, I'm not expecting the staff to work seven days a week but FFS, if you're in business selling expensive stuff, mostly to working people then it would be sensible not to close on a weekend. Close two days through the week instead. What am I supposed to do, take a bloody day off work? And retail complains about not getting enough trade to keep them profitable 🤡.

This is my pet grumble as well. The argument is usually "we have to close early, or on the weekend, to give our staff a break". I get that, but that's why you advertise for weekend work. And get different staff in who only work weekends. Closing on Sundays is an ancient law, from a time when people thought they'd go to hell if they worked on the sabbath. Has nothing moved on yet?

A lot of retail businesses don't seem to have moved with the times, some I can understand, but not a leisure industry. It's not like the vast majority of cyclists are out on club runs on a Sunday anymore either as that culture appears to have gone. Personally I'd jump at the chance to work Saturday and Sunday and have two days off through the week instead, I've thought that for years. Imagine having a Monday & Tuesday as your 'weekend' and not having to do weekend things when it's busiest!

Working week for three and half years was Friday through to Monday, split shifts either end of the day.

This depends to a large extent on the size of the business.

My LBS is a two person operation - the owner and one assistant. And for him, I think it quite reasonable that he doesn't open Sundays.

But if your LBS is somewhere large enough to employ half a dozen or more, then I might expect them to open every day.

Is this trivial? I'd say it isn't as someone could trip up/fall over these dumped on the floor bikes yesterday! I watched two boys ride into that foyer in the local Tesco, climb off then just let them fall to the floor. When we were children we were taught to prop our bikes up against walls, not leave them flat on the floor. My ex father in law had a rule. If such a bike was blocking his path he walked over it, not attempted to walk around it. Yes, I know that'd be more tricky than walking round it, but he was that way inclined.

It's not trivial if someone trips over them, it's also annoying that kids have so little respect for their own property.
What you could do is move them somewhere out of site and wait for the little buggers to come back and crap themselves that their bikes have been nicked, that'll learn 'em!

Captchas like this. Do they mean the actual light bodies or the supporting cable as well? I've tried both on different occasions and falied.

It's very annoying I know. I would only select the 6 squares with lamp lenses in.

The ones that irritate me more are the funny words that look like Doctors handwriting. I always have to do 2 or 3 before I get one right. Some are impossible

I always get two captchas with Gmail even if I enter the first one correctly. I now just enter some random text for the first and the correct text for the second. It still gets me in.

As a musical anhedonist I’ve Had that all my life, from school assembly , (why Is everyone talking funny) through to later life, “You must listen to (insert string of silly words, the name of a bunch of noise-makers, apparently) it’ll blow your mind, (no it won’t it’s just an annoying racket with pretentious pseudo intellectual words) to “what do you want played at your funeral?” (Nothing, I intend to not have a funeral if I can avoid it.)
”Oh that’s sad” (no it isn’t, what is sad is the small fortune you’ve wasted on listening to the air vibrate.)

Either that or

*On the news*

"Such and such has died. Throughout their Squillion year career, they transformed music as we know it and became a much loved and popular performer around the world, with pieces such as..."

And I am just there thinking

'Who? Never heard of them!".
