I picked up a new can opener a short while ago and on making myself some tuna fish sarnies for today I notice that it cuts the top off the can rather than removing the lid . Now I have the problem of draining the tuna , with the old way I could press the lid into the can and drain . I really could do without tuna fish based challenges at 630 in the morning

Oh Cuchilo, I have no advice but I have to tell you how much I love your new giraffe gif. Bliss.

Oh no, hang on, how about if you use one of those old-fashioned tin-openers that leaves a triangle hole, or a stab-action one, or the one on your Swiss Army knife; make two opposite holes; then drain, then open with your new tin-opener?

Tuna needs more than a soft drain for a sarnie ! You need to push the lid in and squeeze out the stuff . Otherwise you will have soggy bread :stop:

The can opener doesn't go the other way and I do intend to get a proper one again but life is busy so I always forget to pick one up .

As for how my tinned tuna was caught , I have no idea but im guessing as the tin doesn't have a ring pull they must have done their budget on the fishing .

No tuna tin opening goes smoothly in my household, unless it's a ring pull, but I'm too stingy to buy posh tuna tins
So, visualize:
me, standing in front of this tin, opener in hand, trying hard to decide which hand to use for holding, which hand to use for turning the little wheels, which direction to turn them. Turn them the wrong way, they won't slice the lid open.
I am ambidextrous, favoring the left
It takes me half an hour to open a tin of tuna.
Meanwhile, BigCat is howling his heart out, jumping up and down in excitement :hyper:
How does he know it's tuna in the can when the sodding thing is not even pierced??

I FEEL YOUR PAIN!

I have tuna wraps for lunch everyday without fail. I can't tell you how many tin openers I have been through, I am "this" close to splashing out on an electric tin opener but now I'm concerned I'll have the same issue as you! I hadn't considered the possibility of them cutting from the sides rather than the top of the can.

Also - Don't you hate it sometimes when you are squeezing the lid into the can and suddenly it creases in the middle and sends a jet of murky brine all over your top?! Not fun....

Oh, and did I mention I don't even like tuna...

I saw a Tuna Top Tip recently - I can't remember where, but probably on the Beeb one Saturday morning. A blind tasting showed that people couldn't taste any difference between the tinned tuna from the same brand whether it was 'steak', 'chunks' or 'flakes'. An important finding, given that tuna steaks are twice the price of flakes.
I can.
But I live with Asda smart price tuna chunks or more recently Aldi as it's cheaper. I can't do flakes...

My cat goes potty when I put the microwave on as I am normally defrosting a steak or mince for dinner . He knows he will get raw meat so as soon as I go near it hes there

Ah, how do you know? Have you done a properly conducted double blind survey?
The Beeb's mini-test did point out that people can tell the difference between different brands, because some are better quality than others - but not between the different styles of the same brand.
I find that Lidl's chunks taste exactly the same as their steaks to me. And all are considerably improved by draining out the food-grade sunflower oil and tipping on (sorry, can't bring myself to 'drizzle') some decent olive oil.
