I think someone above mentioned that there is some joint ownership thing going on, so I'd be very surprised if they spent extra money (Aside from the presenter) to change/alter the already created highlights package that they will make available for streaming.
I suspect the attitude will be that we are lucky to have it, and take what you're given.
Very happy to be wrong though.

it would make no sense though to do that as youre then having to pay for a production team to watch 6hrs of racing per day to produce the highlights for 3 weeks, and potentially also have to have a commentary team dub in, when you can just take the ready made thing from TNT. I know the TNT crew spend alot of time promoting HBO stuff, and talking about things like the breakaway which would make no sense to a C5 audience.

but surely they should be looking to do it as cheaply as possible as the lesson learned from ITV were the production costs for the size of audience they were getting, which impacted their ability to attract sponsors/advertising, didnt add up.

I mean Im surprised theyre bringing in Becky Charlton to host their show, because now you have a presenter talking to camera, which means a production crew as well, editors to splice it together, studio time perhaps or maybe theyll have her following the tour around which is all accomodation and expenses, and its just adding to the costs for no real gain to the viewer.

I'm sure she'll be just sat in the reception of Channel5, old skool style.

It didn't make sense on Quest or DMAX either, but they still talked about it there.

But maybe Paramount or WBD don't want their premium/subscription hosts appearing on free channels any more?

The terms of most sport TV deals are the pictures of the event only.
Rachel may well have other matters beyond the C5 presentation and if those anyway involve her following the race it could simply be her and available cameran in the style of a TV news reporter doing a simply intro, possibly an interview or two, and a preview of the next day

"the stage started in xxxx" few shots of sign on etc
then narrate thru early skirmishes, break went, scoping up of KOm and sprnt points and
" we join the commentary with 20km to go as the break with 58 second lead head onto the final climb of the day..."

Then back to studio at end for a bit of chat, but less fashion talk with no Orla and Adam.

Yes totally agree with you, I expect if they are promoting the break away, they will have to become more disciplined as to when they mention it, and those parts will be omitted from the highlights package - probably a simple rule to only mention it in the downtime/minimum action parts, which they would not include in the highlights anyway.

I'll be amazed if they managed that when they couldn't for their own channels. Heck, they couldn't play the show out at the scheduled time consistently!

I think it's much more likely we'll either get snippets of unchanged TNT commentary, including references to things not on 5, or the channel-neutral ASO & RCS world feed English commentary.

Yes please no Carlton

I'll be sticking to SBS anyway ;-)
Thinking about it, I actually wonder if they will intentionally leave in references to the break away etc, as it's effectively an advertisement to try and get people to subscribe rather than watch it for free.
If there is a shared owner, then I can't see why they would not go this route.
"Here's what you could be getting if you choose to subscribe to our other channel"

Channel 4 are obligated to mention (Although I think that was added to the contract in later years as was not there from the start to my recollection) each and every time that the live F1 races are available on Sky etc, so this would be similar.

So basically the bit that always made ITV highlights worth watching over ES/D+ is likely to go because it makes producing a highlights show too expensive?

As for commentary with irrelevant advert content, you'd have to go a long way to beat Sky's IPL coverage. I assume they just use a world feed commentary but the actual commentators have to read regular adverts for the IPL sponsors, the majority of which aren't available in the UK.

I would be pretty much certain yes, but I guess we'll see fairly soon, although they have bugg3r all time to get much sorted out for this years tour, though perhaps they will refine and improve it as time goes on.
From watching interviews with Imlach and Boulting, it would seem that the core of the ITV production team came from the original C4 team, so they had a huge amount of experience and skill there with how to turn out a top notch product for the end viewer.
Presumably all of them will have moved on in one way or another, so even if C5 wanted to recruit them, it's got to be unlikely many will be available, and then there is the cost of course.
I'm familiar with the host - they know their cycling iirc, and I think will do a decent job, but I guess it will be a pretty short brief, just introducing the highlights - wonder if they will bother with a ex pro cyclist pundit of any kind.

I'll definitely carry on watching the aussie version, as I actually like their commentary, but I'll dip into this just to see what they have done, and how it goes - well until I hear kirby and then it will get turned off sharpish.

in fairness most of them probably chose to retire when the ITV deal ended, or just decided to let others have a go, as theyd been doing this for what would have been the 40th year this year, its not an easy race to follow when youre covering it for media, and obviously 3 weeks a year employment doesnt pay the bills.

but Becca has been round pro cycling, and pro cycling media in the UK for ages, she used to race herself on the UK scene, but personally I think Orla does a fantastic job fwiw, so Im not sure what C5s thinking is at this stage or what their setup will be for their highlights show, Im sure she'll do fine

but shes not Gary Imlach thats for sure and wont imitate his style at all, and I know alot of people used to like the C4/ITV highlights show specifically for Gary's often very deadpan setups. this will end up feeling alot more like just generic sports highlights, not the C4/ITV TdF show. I mean will they even use the classic theme tune...I doubt it. But lets wait and see.

But which is the classic theme tune? The ITV or the old Channel 4?

tbh Id say the ITVs as it was around longer 24 years vs 15 yearsish for Pete Shelleys  (which is very hardcore 80s synth style imo)

though I dont know 80s retro is cool so the kidz tell me
