Tyres for road bike

I got some rubino kevlar 700 x 23 last year and completed around 1,000+ miles on them since.

I didnt have a puncture until 2 weeks ago and picked up another last night, the tyre looks ok but a bit worn, they have a red strip down the side and the rubber seems to be breaking a little.

Is it time to change them?

If so any recommendations, I dont want to pay too much and want the puncture protection again, Ive been advised to go for 25s as Im a big lad

is 1000 ish miles good for a tyre?

Well @jefmcg just retired a Rubino at 6400km (close on 4000 miles), so I'd suggest at 1000 miles, yours isn't worn out?

I'd say 1000 miles is poor, I've done that on the Blizzards on my Pearson and no intention of replacing them

did you check the tyre properly after the first one?

Ha! just ordered one myself earlier, having just blown a hole in the sidewall of a rear zaffiro when I hit something on the side of the road, went off with a bit of a pop!
