Our local council, bless 'em have been busy putting cycle lanes around our fair city. However, when I've been trying them out, they appear to have been levelled by a blind man with a mallet. It's a constant, minor bumpetty bump all the way along, :cursing: which is irritating enough to make me go back onto the road again. The construction folk have been using a mini road roller to even the blacktop, but it obviously isn't heavy enough for the job in hand.
Has anyone else experienced similar with their local cycle lanes - ?

Yes, and a lot of the cycle lanes around here are covered in all sort of rubbish, leading to ride out in the middle of the road to avoid punctures.

Yep, between that, the pot holes, the drain covers that are sinking into the ground and a whole host of other hazards, some of the ones in Birmingham are a step backwards safety wise.
They're also so narrow some of the painted on ones, that they give car drivers the impression that its acceptable to drive past you with half a foot between their wing mirror and your face! If car drivers are meant to give roughly the width of car, then surely the cycle lanes should be of such a width!

Some of the cycle lanes round Leicester are a mess, pot holes along with rubbish thrown out of cars.
In Leics, they're not cycle lanes. they're council half-assed painted; pre-cracked white dashed lines with occasional potholes that are so deep that satan himself considers it his door to the surface.

The one that got me a few months ago was a pothole about 4-5inchs deep, 3 inchs wide and a 1.5foot long, it was like a trench. The street light had a tree growing into it and its just before pedestrian crossing and a sharp bend. I was focused on the lights as a pedestrian had just pressed the button and my front wheel ended up in the trench. Just about avoided coming off the bike, but the wheel needed truing and gave myself a nice bit of whiplash.

Has anyone had any joy with reporting pot holes to the council? I meant to do so at the time as its such a danger (the road was only resurfaced a few years back, so Amey hadn't done too good a job!) but after separate fruitless attempt at getting the council to sort something out, decided it would prob be a waste of time.

Reported a pothole 3 times now once to fill that hole .Twice to local council .18 months in and nothing done.
It's on a main road between a crossing island / pinch point and pavement.

Sometimes we're too nice for our own good. If more cyclists claimed against councils for dodgy cycle lanes then more councils would sort out their dodgy cycle lanes.

Between Clanfield and Liphook there are some poorly signposted cycle paths that run alongside the A3, if you're lucky enough to find them you will find the surface is like an old washboard!
