Upgrading groupset

Currently, my bike is fitted with a Shimano Claris gearset (apart from god-awful Tektro brakes), and I would like to upgrade this gearset.

The plan is to go to a complete Shimano 105 5800 gearset with a Shimano RS010 wheelset.

This is the same spec as the highest spec version of my frame the factory (apart from the factory supply Tektro brakes still  ), so same spec as highest factory one, plus improved brakes, and works out £120 cheaper!

I am happy to do all the work myself, I build race bikes, and rebuild many many race engines. But don't want to be bothered with multiple orders so will order any special tools at the same time.

That is what I will be fitting, it includes a bottom bracket. Do I need to swap this to use that chainset? Or is it compatible with the already fitted FSA Tempo bottom bracket?

So my questions are then:
Do I need to change to the Shimano Bottom Bracket?
Can I unwrap the existing bar tape and reapply it? Or do I need to buy new and wrap the whole thing again?
What SPECIALIST CYCLE tools do I need to:
Change Cassette?
Change Bottom Bracket?
Change Chainset?
Thanks

I would have thought bar tape would be awful to re apply judging by how mine came off in bits when I replaced it. So I would buy new, not that expensive actually, I think mine was "lifeline" and came with plugs.
You will definitely need a cassette lock ring tool for shimano rings if it's a shimano cassette, and a bottom bracket tool. I don't know what type your BB is, but if it's like mine and old school square taper, you will need a puller type tool to pull the cranks off the taper. Then if the new crankset is not square taper type you will need a new correct BB to fit it.
I'm sure others may know your exact type and be able to help further.

Best to check what BB fitment your bike has first before you order the groupset and I would use the Shimano one included.
You may need quite a few tools but these are always handy when replacing chains/bb's etc and I would get the best you can afford;for the cassette you'll need a chin whip and the appropriate Shimano tool, there's a Park tools spanner which will be needed for the chainset(dunno about the FSA one I presume you have which matches the bb) and there are specific tools for the bottom brzcket.
The bar tape depends on how flexi it is;some come off easy and can be re-applied but some don't;if it's been on for a while it's worth changing anyway and Fizik tape is pretty good for not too much cash.
If you can re-build engines and stuff you should have no problems, just have search on google and as there are plenty of guides on fitting and setting up bike bits.

I will see if I can find out, but I am assuming that it will fit. As Shimano 105 is fitted to the same frame higher up in the line.

Currently fitted is
FSA BB-7420 Square Taper

Googling around, it seems both bottom brackets are 68mm english thread. So should be interchangeable.

The shimano crankset is splined so I will need to change them over.

I noticed though that the FSA bottom bracket comes in various lengths, but no variation in length of the hollowtech one, is this an issue?

The 105 uses Hollowtech BB's not the square taper of the Tempo. Presumably it is a threaded BB shell - if poss borrow some tools to remove as you won't need them again and then get a cheap Hollowtech Tool to install

The very good groupset will be wasted on those wheels.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately, I don't buy into the lightweight, fancy wheels make a difference idea ;) As long as they stay straight they're fine for me

If the Bottom Bracket takes a 68mm shaft then the 105 will fit straight on to your bike. The reason square taper shafts come in different lengths is to accommodate frames with a different width BB shell or a different crank (a single or a triple ring for instance)
You will need a puller kit to get the old crank off but the external bearing spanner makes installing the new one easy. To save money on buying something you're only gonna use once it may be worth asking a cycle shop to remove the old crank, just take the bare frame in (having removed the chain, wheels front mech etc) and ask if they can 'whip it out' for you

@PhilDawson8270 if its the RS10 your referring to I have had both them and the RS11 (which you will need for the 11sp, RS10 will only fit up to 10 sp, guess the numbers sort of give it away) anyway both sets the rear rim fractured in less than 12 months (7,000 miles), I don't know if its the lower spoke count & roads around here (though I don't believe they are worse than anywhere else) or weight total up weight of bike and rider usually 88-90Kg (yea the bike is heavy at 12.5Kgs stripped to mudguards and rear rack well for a road bike) or just the wheels, just thought I would let you know.

Thanks for the comment on the wheels
Rs010 apparently supports 11 speed now, not sure if it's been updated since?

Any other recommendations for affordable reliable wheels?

It will be the RS11 its the same wheel slightly different hubs same with the RS20/21 RS30/31 the 1 stands for 11sp compatibility, though some might still badged RS10's like the R500/501 (though that is only 10sp) The hubs are labeled 501 the rims have 500 stickers. Mind you I won't be putting any 11sp on till I know I can match a front triple shifter I believe the new Tiagra have the same ergonomics as the 105 so that might be a possibility I can't stand wide ratio cassettes after riding a 12-23 and the thought of a 16th front difference is terrible
