What a very silly thread. It’s just word get over it.
As a speaker of several languages, and an avid reader, I know that words are very important, more so, imo, the way words are put together.
Even more important than the spoken word, are the written words.
Of course, one needs to be aware of the social, cultural background words come from, but this is going way OT.
In conclusion, the answer from me to the OP @mickle is: yes, we can, we should, it is better form not to use those terms.
In saying that, please do not start to report instances of "pimp my bike, food/bike porn" on CC, because the above is only my personal opinion.
Cheers!

I think this is often a generational thing. To the older person 'pimping' is very different to a younger person's view, just like being described a 'Sick'. Personally, to me 'pimping' brings to mind the medical use of the word where students/juniors are effectively quizzed with questions that cannot satisfactorily answered by more senior members of staff.

Hello decadence
@mickle doesn't like the use of certain words because of their associations. I am sympathetic to his arguments. What I find bizarre is the number of people that argue he's wrong or dismiss his arguments as silly or worthless.

Surely if people get upset by something, we should acknowledge and accept this. The upset is real. It's not posing or posturing. I find many of the responses on this thread sad. If you don't like what he says or haven't a counter argument, just move on. Don't post, don't even read it. As my mother used to say, if you can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all.

Please let's not go looking for other offensive words. It's not big and it's not clever.

Surely the last sentence is a contradiction of the rest of your post; since it seems the OP is allowed to find word offensive, but the rest of us are not ?
