Use of the word 'pimping'

A full description of the lifestyle of a pimp and how it differs from that of a square can be found in a fascinating documentary film called Idiocracy.

Hello decadence
Surely the last sentence is a contradiction of the rest of your post; since it seems the OP is allowed to find word offensive, but the rest of us are not ?
Offensive words or words you find offensive? If you find something offensive, I for one, will try and avoid using it.

Hello decadence
Your post is upsetting me, please acknowledge this and delete your post.

Thanks in advance.
Why is my post upsetting you? Mickle doesn't like something and yet people here keep posting about it. Odd.....I thought this was supposed to be a friendly community.

Hello decadence
But you had said we are not allowed to look for words that are offensive
I was referring to members who deliberately are trying to provoke......look back at the inappropriate use of the word 'gay' for example. I happen to prefer to try and understand someone's dislikes rather than deliberately posting words to upset them.

OK, to be serious for a moment. It is all very well someone saying they dislike the usage of a particular word or phase, but to request that people not use it because they consider it offends them is really not on. The next thing you know some believe in faeries and other assorted imaginary friends will be saying "please don't use the word cross, that word should only be reserved for religious use" - it would be a never ending descent into' my words are more important than yours' ... and that would not end well

I am being serious. If you know a word genuinely upsets someone, why would you carry on using it?

In fairness, OP did not say he was offended, he said:
Can we not?
Which I read as "can we consider not using the expression when referring to our bikes, on this cycling forum, reason being etc. etc."
Sounds to me the OP is annoyed, disagrees with the use of the term pimping in this contest, not offended.
I am easily offended and find your post confrontational.
Please accept this and delete your post or is it only things you find upsetting that should not be said?
Again in fairness, @Surly Bruce did not say that any post that could be found offensive/annoying/disagreeable by some must be deleted.
He said there's no need to further aggravate the annoyance/disagreement/offense by deliberately finding/using similar terms, especially (my addition) if the topic did not call for them.

I'm not trying to upset anyone, just pointing out the futility of anyone being upset about certain words that have a perfectly respectable current usage.
Maybe futile, but imo, perfectly understandable.
I must confess that I loathe the word "gammon" when used to describe a certain type of person.
I know it's now in current usage, but, still, it makes me cringe for many reasons.

In conclusion, the answer from me to the OP @mickle is: yes, we can, we should, it is better form not to use those terms.
In saying that, please do not start to report instances of "pimp my bike, food/bike porn" on CC, because the above is only my personal opinion.
Cheers!
Well that's the official stance from Pat which I can accept which I'm sure others others can too so can we all stop bickering? I think we've taken this as far as we can so can someone please knock this on the head.
