Using a phone while driving

A guy on his mobile pulled out in front of me at a junction - causing me to brake and swerve into the opposite lane. 50m down the road were two of the Met's finest. I told them what happened had happened (pointing at the car in the distance and they said: "It's his word against yours - nothing we can do". I said you could check his mobile phone records it happend 30 secs ago - they said "it won't prove anything"...

Camera footage would have helped, I'm sure...

I know someone who lost their license and is now banned for six months for talking on their mobile whilst driving. Previous nine points were for speeding.
