Most poeple miss the point of the "you don't pay road tax" rant from motons.

It's not that cyclists don't pay "road tax" or "vehicle excise duty" or anything else by another name.

It's because we don't have to pay anything directly to use the roads, that's what winds them up. They have to pay. Cyclists don't pay anything directly.

It doesn't matter why we don't have to pay anything (exempt, zero rated based on emissions, etc).

Cyclists don't have to pay something that motorists do. That's what winds them up.

Ideally VED would be scrapped and fuel duty increased appropriately to fill the financial gap. That way no-one would pay any form of "road tax". And their little tiny brains would have to find other reasons to berate cyclists.

However VED forms a neat checkpoint for ensuring MOT and Insurance requirements are met for at least a single point in time every 12 months (there's nothing stopping you getting a tax disc with only one day left on your MOT and Insurance). It's easy for a passing parking attendant to check the tax disc is valid; there's no (current) equivalent check for MOT or insurance (maybe there should be).

Do you mean both sides of the debate on vehicle costs? Or do you mean you're too chicken to post a topic on the benefits of cars?

Clearly the former - and as for being chicken - 90% of CCers are aware that cars have a role to play so of course there would be some sharp remarks but mainly along the lines of 'Why not post this on top gear this is a bike site'.

But to have a discussion on cost and not balence it with benefit is too one sided and below what one normaly expects from cc. Kinda dull if only one side of an argument is presented who would you disagree with?

Why would I do that? If you're too bloody idle to make your meaning clear, the least you can do is tell others what it means when your posts appear to be written in another language.:biggrin:

It's common language on the internet, don't blame me if you don't want to reduce your own ignorance.

LOL!! That's pure cheeky comeback, don't take it too seriously. :biggrin:

The difference being, that DKUATB is a reasonably well known acronym and is widely used. I can understand someone not having come across it before, but not the unwillingness to look it up.

BM I always look your posts up.

A lot of the time I just thought you were showing us how clever you are.

Sorry about the misdiagnosis.:smile::biggrin:

In all seriousness, I can't understand the unwillingness to make your meaning clear when you're making a point on a public forum. That strikes me as basic courtesy. It may well be a common acronym in your world, but I haven't come across it before and I fail to see why I should spend my time looking up something you've written just to make your life easier.

It's not exactly fair for you to blame me for common acronym usage when you chose to join an internet forum and interact. You came to the environment where these are in common use after all. I also had to learn quite a few of the common ones, but you don't see me complaining about it.
