What are views on the PSA group ( Peugeot Citroen) making a bid for Vauxhall? I am surprised nobody has mentioned it yet .

General Motors pulling out of Brexit UK and pinning the blame on the French.

And PSA are likely interested because it gives them potential manufacturing capacity in the UK, thus avoiding import tariffs post Brexit. It could be good, but I'll reserve judgement until some more information is in the open.

To some, that's proof that Vauxhall don't make bikes.

Well if it is sold I don't rate their chances of keeping production here. There's an Ellesmere Port plant up the road with potentially 1700 jobs plus the supply chain and another one in Luton. Once new models are introduced, I reckon they'd shift the production line.

There's nothing special about Vauxhall, it's just a badge for GM's homogenous car production machine, what the sale of GM in Europe means in the long term is hard to guess, you have to follow the money to France to figure out what it means to the new owners, but I would guess some cuts/closures and changes are going to be necessary.

If it's not sold production at Ellesmere Port is far from assured - Vauxhall-Opel is a loss making edifice, and the already cash strapped GM can't keep subsidising it indefinitely.

It'll be really sad if it goes. Friends of mine have worked there since school and it's a mainstay of the town and wider area, further up the Wirral peninsula and into North Wales. For a long time it's put a lot of meals on a lot of tables.

One by one my home town is losing all of its big employers. The future hangs on selling sale ticket clothes to brummies.

That's just about it. I like Vauxhall, had a fair few but they are nothing special as you say, but if you just want a car to do a simple job, they do that and represent good value for money. That said, my Astra J is a let down after the H, heavy and relatively uneconomical...but it is better refined. Compared to Golf's, Seats etc etc, they're not as good... but, they're not those prices either. Inevitably, Peugeot will cut production at the least, long term I think you'd see the brand disappear. Despite my liking of Vauxhall, I can't say I'd be heartbroken if the brand disappeared.
Another angle, when I got my former Astra, I did consider a 308 I think it was. My manager had one, I asked his opinion....THE most uninspiring car he ever owned he said . Reliable, good value etc etc...but quite dead to drive. Pretty much like my current Astra I suspect.
