The miles do roll along, but I don't think the speed does much. I've been on beta blockers since I was about 40, and while I have been able to do good miles, maxing out at about 100, I'm still about 13 mph, generally. Like yourself, I am capable of bursts of 20 mph. I think you did a great job with the bike, BTW. It looks alot better than when it came to you. I like the subtle look. Satin black has its attractions. I'm thinking of doing up an old Fuji Grand Touring in satin black or olive this spring.

A lovely old bike there Tyred.

I took mine out for a spin tonight in the dark and rain to try out the cross tops. Well pleased.

P3050102.JPG Tyred, I too have one like that and have ridden it this week. You probably know they were the incarnation of Vikings that were built in Derry/Londonderry, I believe in the late 70s and early 80s. I also have a Severn Valley from the original Wolverhampton factory which closed in 1966.

Now, if we are talking REAL Vikings, this is my Severn Valley. I took it to the Wolverhampton Archives place last year and it was much appreciated by a member of staff who turned out to be the daughter (I think) of the man who started the company after the war. Davies???

When I was a young man I dreamed of a Severn Valley with all Campagnolo stuff on it. Now I am old and comparatively affluent, I have one. P6020413.JPG

I do indeed and have ridden mine through the industrial estate where it was made.

Quite a few non-Viking bikes around here ended up with Viking livery as well as anyone who had a bike that was getting a bit rusty and knew someone in the factory got their mates to have it professionally re-enamelled on the QT.

That wouldn't surprise me - at one time a lot of the houses in East Belfast were painted grey, with paint from the shipyard.
