Just to update - I fitted some 2mm spacers and correspondingly longer bolts, and this has indeed fixed the problem. Thanks again for your thoughts on this.

Cheers folks. In the end I replaced just the chain ring. So thanks for letting me know that was even possible! First ride out today, no problems

Have you got the full details of this! As I’m having the same issue and currently trying to source and outer chain ring. But I’m new to the MTB scene so learning at the moment.
