I seem to remember it was a completely impervious coating. It used to redistribute rather than remove.

Great for improvising a kazoo with a comb though.

Make sure you do the comb and kazoo bit before the redistribution though.

The only way to use it was to scrape the remnants off.

Dreadful stuff, as was its flat-pack twin which we had at home.

I built a little ensuite bathroom next to the chimney from the woodburner. Room was small so I did not want loo roll holder sticking out of wall so chopped it in a recess in chimney wall.
Now we have nicely warmed loo paper.
It is always in A as you cannot reach B with it set in.

My old headmaster explained to us in the sixth form that the paper should hang down next to the wall as per A. He even had the caretaker taken to task for putting the roll, in his executive toilet, on the wrong way, B. I have always adhered to this ever since and find the paper comes off the roll much easier.
