Some of the starred routes are built via Strava and some of them are built via Ride with GPS

I don't use Strava but do use RWGPS. In RWGPS there is a feature to "pin" a ride which on a Wahoo will show as a star. In the Elemnt app and on the Wahoo itself there is an option to filter by "starred." Doing this will show your starred rides first. It can be useful to star a route so it's easier to find.

I would guess you have accidentally pinned a route in RWGPS.

Starring a route won't affect me following it and it uploading to Strava post ride?

Not in my experience but I don't use the feature a lot. The only issue I've had with uploading to Strava has been caused by Strava. This only delays the upload, it isn't lost.

I've been meaning to comment. I feel you need to get clear in your mind that routes and rides are two entirely separate things. A route is a file loaded to your device which you can display and follow. The ride is a recording of the ride and is a separate file.

At any point in a ride you can turn off the route and your ride will continue to record. I probably do this once a week and have done for years. When you turn off the route your device will show this.

I need help with this:

One of the guys in my cycling group sent me a Strava link for a route. It won't upload to my Wahoo Elemnt App despite me trying to share it to the Wahoo Elemnt App using the following steps in the pictures below (share then share to then to routes on the app icon) Am I doing something wrong?

I think you are still confusing a recorded Ride with a planned Route. That first screenshot says 'Ride' at the top. What you've tried to do is Share the ride, not Save a route from it.

Your first screenshot does not show the top of the page. If you move up to show the map (of the ride you've been sent), you'll see an icon top right which looks like a pronged flag. Touch that and you will be taken to the 'Save route' page. Save the route there and, assuming you have Strava linked to Wahoo, it'll appear on your head unit.

Thanks again for your help - much appreciated.

I've tried to do that but it won't save the route as I'm not a subscriber to Strava (I use the free version). Is there a way round this before I commit to maybe taking out a subscription with Strava?

You can download the gpx of the ride you've been sent. I can't see that this is possible from the phone site, but it's possible on the web site (I've just tested it using a free Strava account).
- Open the ride on the Strava web site.
- On the graphic of the ride, top left, as shown below, there are various options, one of which is to download a GPX file. This works on a free account (definitely - I just tried Save and that doesn't, whilst the GPX download worked)
- Once you've downloaded the gpx file, you can upload it into Komoot (I think you said you have a Komoot a/c linked?). Do that via the '+' button at top left of the Komoot web page (or there will be an equivalent in the phone application).

(Once you have the gpx, you can put it into any routing service you wish; Komoot is just an example. You can't import to Strava with a free a/c, unsurprisingly.)

Thanks again! You've been very helpful.

I'm unable to open the ride on the Strava website as the person's account is private. I opened it previously with a link from WhatsApp which obviously took me to the ride and not the route!

It's the ride screen from which you can download the gpx file - that's the one shown in my post above - but that's not helpful if you can't see it obviously. Ask them to download the gpx file for you and send it to you by email / Whatsapp / whatever.

I can't see it because their Strava account is private.

Thanks again!
