Walking Boots

I always wear two pair of socks as do many walkers/hill climbers, first pair has got to be quite tight and thin or it will rub, the idea is the outer pair rub and causes friction but the inner pair does not move and protects the skin, never failed for me yet.
I do the same but I know a few people who didn't get on with this method and we digress. We need to help Doseone pick a new pair.

The Salomons look good but you need to try them on , some are narrow fitting and no good if you have a typical wide brittish foot, I have Meindl burmas and they are quite wide but a little heavy for my likeing but are comfortable out the box( no wearing in)

Had a pair of Salomon mids, they absolutely crippled me. Not just feet but severe hip pain. Gave up in the end and gave them to a charity shop.
Now breaking in a great pair of Gelert Murton boots. No problems at all.
I suppose it's like bike saddles, the true test is time.

Giving the lie to all the stuff about retail therapy only being applicable to gurls. Just wear another pair of socks you lightweight.
Well even if I don't get to buy a new pair of boots at least I get to buy another pair of socks now^_^

Choose away folks^_^

No no no no no, save the money, spend it on a bicycle.
For once in my life I'm actually not looking to +1 on bikes. Except maybe a titanium Genesis Equilibrium, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

Scarpa's are often a safe bet

They're your old ones Crax, I can tell by the gravy stains on them.

I'm open minded but had envisaged a lighter weight boot than full leather.

Middlin' 1.2Kg for the pair.

Watch out for lighter fabric boots, the ones I've had didn't last. Been through two pair now just walking the dog and have given up and bought cheap Aldi ones for that.

Thanks. It breaks my heart wearing boots. My La Sportiva trail runners are just over 600g for the pair, so that's a hell of a lot less weight each leg has to lift over a long hike. Downside is wet feet though and I keep turning my poxy ankles.

I do a lot of walking but it's mostly doing building work. Work boots can be extraordinarily comfortable, cheap and waterproof.

This thread reminds me, mine are nearly done for, I must buy another pair. They'll be handy for the snow, too. Nought out of ten for style of course!

i agree with asterix . work boots are very comfortable and i spend 9 hours a day in them and on average walk 9 miles a day with no problem . some can be cheap . i always go for a middle range priced one .

last year put on my walking boots for the first time in 2 years and got stung by a wasp that was in it . as i suffer from massive anaphylactic shock i had to go to hospital and have a load of injections to keep me going . so now a ocd tap before they go on

I've been using a trail shoe on the hills recently, but wore my walking boots for the first time in years this afternoon.

They were great going up, but killed my feet coming down, they are just so hard on the toes. The boots must be 20 years old though, so are more modern ones any kinder on the feet?
sounds like your not t

it sounds as if you re not tying the laces up properly. there is a technique that prevents this problem. its very easy to do but difficult to explain without demonstrating. ask in any good outdoor shop about "double locking". good luck
